Getting Ready - 5 reasons why you should capture this moment
Many couples ask themselves the question: Should we photograph our Getting Ready?
It is a special day, you are looking forward to it for months and often already have had ideas since your childhood what your wedding day should look like. Then the time has finally arrived and at the Getting Ready you become a bride or a groom. The tension rises, many things go through your head in this moment and often it is shared with the witnesses, siblings or even parents. Accordingly, the Getting Ready is also an important part of the wedding, with great emotional value. Why not also start with the wedding photography exactly at the moment when you get ready for the big day? And don't worry, a good wedding photographer will accompany you but won't destroy the moment. Ask him or her in the preliminary meeting what the procedure looks like for this.
Here are 5 reasons why you should capture this moment
1. MORE THAN JUST A PHOTO
I've been married for many years myself and we still look at the pictures every year at the latest on our wedding day. Whenever we get to the getting ready photos, I notice how a smile stretches across my wife's face and I feel the same way about my pictures. To me, her photo is just her in it getting ready, to her it's a reminder of all the thoughts she had at that moment and it brings them back to mind. And shouldn't it be just like that?
2. START TOGETHER WITH YOUR LOVED ONES
A Getting Ready is only perfect when you have your favorite people around you. Bridesmaids, groomsmen or even other confidants can join you to the start of the big day. Also siblings or parents may be invited, because they are certainly almost as excited before the wedding as you are.
3. TIME TO SAY THANK YOU
Who doesn't like to receive a gift? The Getting Ready is the perfect time to give each other something, a little poem or love letter, your groomsmen are certainly happy to help as messengers.
But it is also a great moment to simply say thank you to your parents or the maid of honor. With a personal letter/words or a little attention. Beautiful gestures that should be recorded.
4. MAKE YOURSELVES COMFORTABLE
Make sure you choose a place where you feel comfortable. You want to start the day as relaxed as possible, it will already be exciting day by itself. Put the champagne on ice, create a playlist and let's go. From a photographer's point of view, it's ideal if the room where you're getting ready is nice and bright (e.g. lots or big windows). If your home doesn't seem suitable, e.g. it's too small or you get too distracted there, check out platforms like Airbnb, maybe there's a great accommodation that fits better.
Tip: Look out for place near your wedding location, then you can stay there directly after the party and use the room several times.
5. BUDDIES HELP AGAINST STAGE FRIGHT
When it comes to getting ready, many people only think about getting the bride ready. I think that's a shame. Because there is also a lot going on with the groom and the transformation that takes place. A great time with the best buddies is something one should hold on to. You will neve be this young or unmarried again :-) A cold beer, where the old stories, or events from the bachelor party are revived, help against the rising stage fright.
Often the budget is a reason to consider whether or not the wedding photographer should already come to the Getting Ready. But it is always worth it!
There are so many emotions, hugs and the one or more Prosecco with your favorite people - which means many great photo moments. Like when the mother cries with her daughter and the father sees his little girl in her wedding dress for the first time. Moments that will never come back like this. Why not capture them forever?
As a rough guideline, you should allow about 1.5 hours before the bride leaves the venue of Getting Ready.
